RANDOLPH CENTER, Vt. (Dec. 28, 2020) – Fourteen educators from around the state recently completed a virtual graduate course “Entrepreneurship Across the Curriculum,” a collaboration between Vermont Small Business Development Center (VtSBDC) and Castleton University that took place from October through December. The three-credit course was designed to provide teachers with an entrepreneurship curriculum they can use for in-person or remote delivery.
The course helps 8th to 12th grade secondary educators successfully incorporate entrepreneur education and financial literacy into the curriculum. The goal is to integrate subject matter that creates an “entrepreneurial mindset” in students, empowering them to follow their passions.
Reviews upon completion revealed that 100 percent of those attended felt that the course met or exceeded their expectations. The comments were overwhelmingly positive with appreciation for the opportunity to collaborate with classmates and grow in their knowledge.
One teacher wrote:
“For me, the elements of business planning and analysis were extremely helpful and inspiring…I am left figuring out ways to incorporate…this material into other classes in the event I cannot teach an entrepreneurship specific course.”
Another commented:
“I felt like I was doing okay teaching entrepreneurship in my class, but now that I have taken this course I realize that I have so much more that I can offer my students and I am excited to open their minds to the possibilities.”
All agreed that the course will have a direct, positive impact.
Looking toward the future, one educator said, “Knowing this information will make students better employees if they go right to work after high school. It will also allow students to dream of possibilities is they higher aspirations.”
