RANDOLPH CENTER, Vt (Oct. 19, 2022) – Linda Rossi, State Director of the Vermont Small Business Development Center (VtSBDC), has named Sergio Alvares as the organization’s Statewide Advisor, Strategic Projects.
As a statewide business advisor, Alvares helps small business owners optimize their time and money and reduce business risks by incorporating his expertise in finance, technology, and cybersecurity. Alvares also assists clients with the process of purchasing or selling a business through financial valuations and in-depth financial analysis. To reduce business risk, he develops technology hygiene initiatives to raise awareness of risks and guides small business owners toward adopting risk management best practices to protect their technology, business, and employees.
“There is nothing more rewarding than contributing to someone’s success,” said Alvares. “Having the ability to guide business owners towards creating, growing, or improving their businesses is truly fulfilling.”
Prior to joining VtSBDC, Alvares was a senior associate at JPMorgan Chase & Co. where he led a global project team from finance, technology, and operations to automate financial processes.
A veteran of another Small Business Development Center, he has also served as a finance/technology business analyst and advisor at Delaware’s SBDC.
Alvares is fluent in English, Spanish, Portuguese, German, French, and Italian. He has lived and worked in Europe and Latin America.
Notable professional experiences include co-founding and building a fully remote multilingual/multicultural communication organization from the ground up in Switzerland. He has also developed and taught a graduate course at the University of Delaware Business School on Current Issues and Emerging Technologies focused on financial technology.
He graduated from the Zurich University of Applied Sciences in Switzerland with a degree in business administration and management and achieved his MBA in Finance and MS in Information Systems and Technology Management, both at the University of Delaware.
“We are delighted to welcome Sergio to our statewide team of advisors,” said Rossi. “His diverse national and international experience, his background in finance, digital solutions, and technology hygiene, and his local and global outlook are extraordinary assets to our organization and to small business owners throughout our state.”
